Adopting Work From Home - Lance Lee
If you're a creative like me, a creative who learns best from hands on trial and error, lean into documenting the process and still pursue a technical understanding of your craft.
My content creation skills come from trial and error - less formal teaching, and more learning from my gut.
My educational background is grounded with interviewing, writing, editing, analysing, and publishing skills. It is not grounded in the engineering of the tools I use daily or the science of my craft in practice.
What I'm doing in this photo is messy and not the best way to get the job done; but it worked. It's from the first summer I took product photography more seriously through new tools & practices.
With 2020, as more time and energy became available for a freelance career rapidly gaining momentum, I chose to invest in more gear and I began studying the technical side of what I was actually doing every single day.
By late 2021, I could comprehend and tackle my work technically but still keep it special to me through my instinct and preferences.
The pandemic radically accelerated the growing demand for intelligent and productive at-home creatives in the eCommerce world. Wanting to be a part of the change and financially survive, too, I took advantage of the pivot.
We all learned something through it.
I'm thankful I've leaned into the process. I'm so stoked I've romanticised the technical side of my craft. I hope y'all feel that way, too.
